Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has said that his former club must go into the final eight Premier League fixtures five points clear if they want to win the title.
The Gunners are currently five points ahead of Manchester City with 11 rounds of matches left.
Mikel Arteta’s men will have the chance to extend it to eight points when they host Crystal Palace this weekend, with City having to play a FA Cup tie.
Merson said on Sky Sports: “If Arsenal play first and they keep going eight points clear with City needing to win to make it five, before you know it, it will take its toll. It happened with Tottenham and Leicester in 2016.
“If Arsenal win their next two games against Palace and Leeds, I don’t see how they can be stopped.
“They’ll be five points clear at least with eight games to go. They’ve got to play Manchester City but they wil
l have to win that game
